Tod and I had a wonderful holiday this Christmas. Our daughter and son-in-law hosted Christmas for our immediate family and his dad and his wife. Food was delicious and plentiful.
What was lovely to observe was the relationship between my daughter and her husband. They were married last April and are expecting their first child. She hasn't been feeling the greatest for the past 5 months, but looks great. Our son-in-law is attentive, and keeps a good sense of humor, even though their new house has presented endless problems: flooding, installation of a sump pump, a new roof, and now a racoon has decided it is nice to sun itself on the roof! It is disappointing to have something so new, become a money pit. Our son-in-law has been taking home maintenance courses to ensure that he knows how to fix some basics, and he has a handy father!
However, they are good savers and work together to make priorities. We noticed that they spelled each other off in the kitchen. It leaves both Tod and I with a good feeling to know they are a good match!
It was also great to see our sons on Christmas Day. They are funny and, although I do not always understand the pop culture references, it is great to see the relationships they have with each other.
We stayed 10 days in Ontario, with time for friends and family. It was very relaxing to stay with my mom and step-dad, who made us feel right at home. It is still nice to be spoiled by your mom, at any age!
My next visit will be in March, but I will fly. Then I will fly in again to await the birth of our first grandchild in April. Tod will drive down once the baby is born. I will stay to help out as long as I am needed, and to get my fix of the first grandchild, before driving home.
Then, a family reunion with Tod's family in July will be great fun! But, that will be a shorter visit, as we don't want to miss the beautiful Maritime summmer!
